Joey Graham, our Executive Vice President and General Manager, is an HME industry veteran. From past floods in India to today’s global pandemic, Graham has led Prochant through difficult events.

That’s why he is sharing his advice for coping with these uncertain times. If you manage or are part of a DME billing team, read on to get six tips for coping with COVID-19 in DME billing.

Six Tips to Cope with COVID-19

1. Stay calm.

Home care is a major part of the solution to this situation. DME is an extremely resilient industry.

2. Have a plan.

Create your contingency plans now so that you can act immediately, if and when the time comes.

3. Mobilize working from home.

If you haven’t already put this in place, now is the time. There is some great technology to consider as part of your work-from-home strategy:

  • Zoom – for web meetings and calls;
  • Amazon WorkSpace – for virtual desktops (in case you don’t have a robust terminal server and RDP licenses);
  • RingCentral – for phones and fax  (some licenses include Zoom);
  • Office365 and/or Google Drive – for file sharing, collaboration (such as MS Teams), and productivity applications.

4. Contact your payors.

Request that they relax certain requirements such as authorizations and timely filing/timely appeals until this situation resolves.

5. Attend this webinar.

Don’t miss the AAHomecare, VGM, and Team@Work webinar tomorrow, March 20, about home delivery strategies during COVID-19. Ensure your team members are following social distancing and infection control procedures meticulously.

6. Lean on recurring rentals and resupply.

Rely on this part of your business to get you through any decreases in new orders that result from the cancellation of non-emergency medical procedures and appointments.
